What is migraine?

If you suffer from migraines, you know very well that the term pain is not the right one to use. Migraine pain is paralyzing. But aside from the severe headache, migraine is also accompanied by other strange symptoms. You will feel your eyes unusually and an abnormal sense of smell.

Blurry visions. You may have moments during which you seem to see flashes of light, which can be almost blinding, which are actually the result of a visual illusion occurring inside your brain.

Dizziness. Many people experience terrible vertigo, a feeling as if the room is spinning so much that you feel like you’re going to fall over if you don’t sit down. Often these dizziness are also accompanied by nausea. Migraine cases are almost always accompanied by severe dizziness.

Sharp pain. Research shows that at certain moments, certain nerves are activated that make you feel pain so sharp that it feels like needles are piercing you. After that, the nerves go to sleep which causes you to feel numb. So you have a stabbing sensation, followed by a numbness that is usually felt in the hands.

High touch sensitivity. Just like when we get sunburned, in certain sensory areas, a sharp pain is caused when we touch something with light. This condition is caused by hot blood vessels, which blur the nerves and cause pain in the brain and back.

“Funny” face. The state of the face, mouth, and tongue can prevent you from expressing and tarnish your speech. You may also have difficulty remembering words.

Unpleasant aromas. The aromas you smell may seem heavy and cause confusion. You are not alone, almost all migraine sufferers experience the same olfactory hypersensitivity. Unfortunately this doesn’t make freshly baked cookies any tastier. Instead, part of the brain is overloaded in the area of smell, making your stomach more sensitive.

High sensitivity to the sun. Exposure to very bright and sunny environments would not help prevent pain. Sun exposure signals your optic nerves, which send signals to the brain to activate pain receptors. The mechanism is so powerful that blind people who suffer from migraine suffer terribly from it.
